CHICAGO POLICE OFFICER DOWN

CHICAGO (WGN) – Two Chicago police officers were shot Friday afternoon on the city’s South Side.

Chicago police said at around 5 p.m., officers stopped what CPD Supt. Larry Snelling described as a “homemade vehicle” in the 2000 block of East 79th Street in the South Shore neighborhood. The person inside the vehicle then ran off, prompting officers to run after him.

Officers eventually caught up with the suspect and a struggle ensued. During the struggle, the suspect reached into a bag, pulled out a gun and fired a shot at the officer who returned fire and hit the suspect. The officer was hit in the vest and another officer was hit in the arm, according to investigators.

Police said the suspect was taken to the hospital in critical condition, while the officer who was shot in the arm underwent successful surgery and is recovering. The officer shot in the vest was taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.   READ MORE          


HOUSTON TEXAS POLICE OFFICER IN AUTO ACCIDENT

A Houston police officer was injured in a crash with another vehicle in northwest Houston overnight, and he’s expected to recover, according to the Houston Police Department.

The officer was driving westbound on Clay Road, and a civilian was vehicle heading north on Gessner Road when the two collided in the intersection, Sgt. Barrow told OnScene TV. Police were investigating which driver had a green light and which had a red light, but early reporting indicated the civilian blew through a red light at a high rate of speed, he said.   Read More.

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — One firefighter suffered a “heat-related condition” while fighting an industrial fire Friday on Railroad Place, according to the fire department.

Firefighters were dispatched to the rear of a building on New Britain Avenue around 9 a.m. for reports of heavy smoke and visible fire coming from various locations in the vicinity, according to the fire department.

Upon arrival, crews found an industrial facility on Railroad Place, where heavy fire was seen coming from an attached storage structure, according to the department. Read More.


1 person, 2 firefighters injured in northeast Indy townhome fire

INDIANAPOLIS — Three people, including two firefighters, are in the hospital Thursday recovering from injuries sustained during an early morning blaze at a townhome.

The Indianapolis Fire Department was called around 7:50 a.m. to the city’s northeast side on report of a blaze breaking out at a local apartment complex. Upon arrival at the Lake Castle Apartment Homes, they found a heavy fire that had broken out in a vacant unit on Kingsport Rd. Read More…


WILDLAND FIREFIGHTERS KILLED FIGHTING FIRE NEAR COLORADO – UTAH BORDER

MESA COUNTY, Colo. — Federal wildland fire officials are releasing the identities of three firefighters who died while responding to the Knowles Fire in western Colorado on Saturday.

The firefighters were assigned to the Rifle Helitack crew and were engaged in initial attack operations on the Knowles Fire when the incident occurred.

The deceased firefighters have been identified as:

  • Emily Barker, 38, of Clinton Township, Michigan, assigned to the U.S. Forest Service Rifle Helitack.
  • Nick Hutcherson, 27 of Glendale, Arizona, assigned to the U.S. Forest Service Kaibab National Forest.
  • Sydney Watson, 27, of Warrior, Alabama, assigned to the U.S. Wildland Fire Service Rifle Helitack.

Two additional firefighters were injured during the incident and are receiving medical care.

The Snyder Fire has merged with the Jones Fire and subsequently overtook the Knowles and Gore fires. All fire activity is now being managed and reported as the Snyder Fire. The fire is currently estimated at over 28,000 acres along the Colorado-Utah border.  Read More…
